My Favorite Local Second-Hand and Vintage Resellers on Instagram!

There are many options for selling and buying second-hand clothing and other items online. A variety of websites and apps are available for easy re-selling and affordable second-hand shopping, all accessible from your smartphone. Poshmark, eBay, thredUP, and Depop are just a few of the online thrift stores available for all your consignment and thrifting needs.

While a few of these platforms offer the option to message and comment, there are only a few that uniquely offers both the option to shop and provide a social platform. For example, Poshmark proudly brands itself as a "social" marketplace where shoppers can mutually bond over their love for fashion, second-hand items, and great deals! Poshmark not only allows users to comment, like, and share their online finds but it allows them to join communities and live shopping parties. Additionally, Poshmark has introduced the ability to share "Lives", where sellers can present their items in real-time and make instant sales to eager shoppers. This concept is very similar to what we see on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook lives where users are communicating with followers in real-time.

With the online shopping space and capabilities rapidly growing, where does that leave shoppers who are looking for a more traditional and personable way to shop "online"? Many people would prefer not to have to sign up for multiple apps just to find second-hand options online. Maybe some people would prefer to keep their online browsing in the apps they know best, like Facebook and Instagram. Luckily, there are options for those who want to avoid making an account for multiple apps all while supporting small businesses and reducing their carbon footprint by shopping "used". The newest re-sell trend is Instagram Thrift Stores.

Instagram Thrift Stores are on the rise and they are exactly what they are implying: Instagram accounts run by re-sellers who source vintage, thrifted, and gently used items for their followers to purchase. In Jacksonville, there are multiple Instagram re-sellers I currently follow. I want to highlight one of my personal favorites there is a must-follow if you are a Jacksonville local.

This is Amber, on Instagram she is known as: @zee_thrift_burglar
She strives to source real, true vintage to her following base of over 6,000 users. Her finds come from road-tripping across the U.S., estate sales, thrift stores, and personal connections. Amber works diligently to provide her own version of "cultured calamity". Her process is pretty simple and quick. Amber starts by engaging with her followers via Instagram lives and stories, notifying them that new inventory is being added. Then, she posts her newest items for sale, and she uploads Instagram posts of each item uniquely posed with measurements and garment details in the caption of her post. Next, it is a race in the post comment section. The first one to comment "SOLD" on the post/item of interest indicates the item has sold to the first commenter. It makes for a competitive and fun way to shop. Once the item has found it's new owner, Amber provides an easy local pick-up method (Jacksonville, FL) or shipping across the US for an extra fee. When buying from local re-sellers like Amber, shoppers are supporting a small business and a fellow community members.

Amber showcases her love for vintage in every one of her styled posts. Her items are not just for sale, they are a piece of her. Amber has a passion for not just re-selling these items but giving these unique pieces a new home because their journey is not done just yet. She strives to make admirable pieces of clothing accessible and affordably priced. Her impact has saved thousands of pieces from going to the landfill, giving these items another chance to shine in someone else's closet.

Instagram Re-Sellers and Thrift "stores" make thrift shopping unique and out of the norm. Buying becomes easier when you do not have to sign up for additional accounts and simply commenting on a post could secure you your next favorite clothing item!

Happy Shopping & Stay Thrifty Friends!
